The Strathcona Regional District Board unanimously passed the rezoning of our 688 Harper Road property on November 23. Area C’s Jim Abram and several other directors expressed lots of credit to our Board for it’s hard work and to the Quadra community for strongly supporting this much-needed affordable seniors housing. Thank you so much to all who wrote letters and emails and came out to the Rezoning Hearing.
Having cleared this important hurdle, our Design Team submitted our Development Permit application to the SRD on Dec.1. In December and January, we’ll be finalizing the design for the building interior and Development Permit requirements, preparing to hire a construction manager and then tendering construction bids, once BC Housing okays the next funding stage. We hope to break ground in Spring, 2018.
Although November’s strong winds sent our sign flying, we’re in high spirits. Donations have climbed to over $200,000 before year’s end. You truly are amazing, Quadra! We are planning more fund-raising in 2018 for the project and specific items we couldn’t include otherwise. Your cash and in-kind donations of materials, equipment, labour and skills help determine the project’s ‘bottom-line’, since QISHS must repay BC Housing funding through a hefty mortgage.
